Distant Reading at the GSA

Here's the presentation I gave at the German Studies Association conference in Washington, D.C. about a week ago:

  • A. Riddell. Models, Morphology, and Moretti's Sociology of Literary Forms. Paper presented at the annual meeting of the German Studies Assocation, Washington, D.C., October 2009. (pdf) (2009-11-17: bug in my original dataset, I need to fix some figures. More shortly.)

The panel was titled: "Graphs? Maps? Trees? New Directions in the Sociology of Literature." The other participants were: Andrew Piper, Matthew Erlin, and commentator Tobias Boes. As the panel title hints, "distant reading" and Moretti's work were the common reference point.

Piper has posted a summary of the panel on his blog. And I'm planning to post a condensed version of one of the more interesting results I presented at the panel. Stay tuned for that.
